Pluses:
- Easy to use drain hose connection - simply connect a garden hose to back of the unit and never worry about emptying the bucket (gravity not pump based drainage)
- Dehumidifier rolls easily on 4 casters
- In addition to removing moisture from the air, these dehumidifiers filter the air, and offer an easy to remove washable filter
- There are multiple drainage options - either use the bucket, garden hose or the direct drain
- Has an anti-spilling bucket lid to reduce the water spilt when emptied
Minuses:
- Water removal bucket not as well made as other brand dehumidifiers - not as sturdy, so bucket needs to be carried with two hands for emptying
- The dehumidifiers are still heavy to bring up and down stairs at 42-62 lbs each
- The plastic housing on these dehumidifiers is a bit thinner than we would have liked but will not rust
- Does not come with a condensate pump. We did find an auxiliary pump that works well with the dehumidifiers and sell it below
- The packaging of these dehumidifiers is not as robust as we would like for shipping protection, which increases the likelihood of units arriving damaged
Summary:
These dehumidifiers are some of the most user-friendly we've seen for home use. They come with a drain hose option so you'll never have to empty the water bucket. If you choose to use the bucket it is easily emptied from the front of the unit. We tested them and were very pleased with the moisture removal capabilities. If you need to pump the water out above the level of the bucket consider the auxiliary condensate pump sold below as well.
Note: There are certain cases when other variables (outside temperature, geographic location, etc) might make the low temperature dehumidifiers a better choice than these Woods regular temperature dehumidifiers. For example, if the temperatures in a basement are going to be consistently below 60 degrees, it is a large area, and the room is not insulated like an unfinished basement, dehumidifiers will have trouble keeping up with removing the moisture in the room. In conditions such as this, see the Comfort-Aire low temperature dehumidifiers (50 or 65 pint capacity) which operate down to 42°F, or our Woods Millennium low temperature dehumidifiers (40 and 55 pint capacity) which will operate down to 50°F.
